Our Principles

Disability is Diversity.

  • We recognize that disability is a natural part of human variation and an aspect of diversity.

All students should have equal access.

  • We are committed to equalizing access to accommodations and support for all students.

Confidentiality is a right.

We do not share information about a student’s disability or other identities without the student’s explicit permission. Faculty or staff who have questions or concerns can be directed to speak with our office. We will only communicate information about the student’s accommodations to the necessary staff/faculty w

Our Principles in Action

Our office uses a hybrid model of providing accommodations that involves review of supporting documentation and student interview. Our staff will work with you to determine reasonable accommodations and utilize an interactive process that emphasizes intersectionality and your lived experiences.

Our staff will support you throughout your time at Ocean County College to ensure that you are receiving appropriate accommodations and to help prepare you for transition into the workforce or as you advance your postsecondary education beyond Ocean County College. It is your right to request a review of your accommodation letter should you feel it is not meeting your needs.

Confidentiality is a right, and you are not required to disclose any personal information or disability-specific details to staff or faculty outside of our office to receive your accommodations. Faculty or staff who have questions or concerns can be directed to speak with our office. We will only communicate information about your accommodations to the necessary staff/faculty who will be implementing them during your academic journey. We disclose personal information about you only with your explicit consent and only if necessary.

Our office promotes equal access and advocates for policy changes at an institutional level. It is our mission to promote universal access, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility throughout Ocean County College and our greater community.
